Last year was my first #12dipsofchristmas with a lovely and supportive online group! After the trials and tribulations of past winters, committing to cold water as regularly as possible throughout winter, alongside supportive friends really did boost my well-being, so I'm excited to get this winter kicked off in the same vein!

Thank you so much to @moonstone.yoga.holly for putting on another wonderful holistic fayre!

I received an insightful tarot reading from @herosjourneyreturn and relaxing Indian head massage from @culchethnaturaltherapy before floating my way into leading a breathwork and meditation.

This was followed by a mesmerising sound journey with @the_temple_of_sounds before I went straight to a reiki healing from @rosereikihealing_, all of which left me feeling serene and grounded 💚🧘‍♀️🐉

Picked up some lovely Christmas gifts from @newleaftimber and @rootandweave. Had some great conversations, and it was wonderful to connect with so many like-minded people.

Our bodies are designed to constantly find a balan

Our bodies are designed to constantly find a balance through homeostasis, whether it is with stress and rest, oxygen and CO2, hormones, acidity, and alkalinity.

Threats to this balance are called stressors and our in-built fight or flight flight response releases adrenaline and a myriad of other hormones to get us out of trouble. However, for many of us, this quick fix has become a way of life.

Our nervous systems can become constantly triggered as we simmer away close to boiling point, ready to react to the most mundane situation.

As a society, we are paying the price for this constant state of high stress.

The antidote to this is relaxed and controlled breathing, which triggers our relaxation response.

Just one minute of relaxed diaphragmatic breathing has been shown to clear the stress hormone cortisol from the body. This in turn relaxes the nervous system and calms the mind.

In February 2024, I will be releasing my first online training in meditation and breathwork.

"Inner Alchemy: Transformative Meditation and Breathwork" will deliver an understanding of how stress affects the nervous system and how breathwork and meditation can bring about balance and harmony to our lives.

The history of our life story is woven into our bo

The history of our life story is woven into our body, where unintegrated emotions, experiences, tension and trauma may be stored as physical sensations and emotional tension.

Conscious connected breathwork encourages us to pay attention to our bodily sensations and emotions, creating a bridge between the body and mind.

During our breathwork journey, the mind can differentiate between the recollection of these memories and the present moment, where we are safely held in the container for the journey.

Through conscious breathing, we can unlock the things that our body and mind are holding on to so that they may be integrated.

This results in the release of pent-up emotional energy and tension stored in the body, helping us to somatically process and release trauma and tension, which can then be integrated so that it affects us less.

Dear Men...

How is your mental well-being?

Suicide is the leading cause of death in the UK for men under 50 and the statistics are staggering.

There is still a stigma around men talking about their mental well-being and expressing their emotions in a healthy manner.

We are less likely to seek help for our mental well-being, because of the societal expectations and stigma around masculinity.

This brings with it a host of issues, which lead men on a downward spiral of suppression and repression of emotions and stress.

We may engage in risky behaviour which leads to addiction, anxiety, depression and at its worst, suicide.

There are barriers to men seeking help and it seems that there is very little in the way of advocacy for men's mental well-being within society itself.

Efforts to raise awareness and advocate are often shouted down by groups who stand in opposition.

I have experienced leaning into that abyss of depression and anxiety in recent times and it is only through the support of friends and family and things such as yoga, meditation, breathwork and weightlifting that I did not fall in myself.

I still bear the scars of the devastating lockdown tyranny that was forced upon us and the world seems to get ever more crazy by the day.

It is vital that we as men, embody healthy and balanced masculinity.

What we resist persists. The only way out is through and the only way through is in. It is only by feeling our emotions that we are able to work through the things that trouble us.

Do not suffer in silence. Reach out. Know that you are loved and that you are needed in this world.

In my next post in this series, I will discuss the ways in which my practices support my mental well-being.
