Meditation

I teach Yoga, meditation, breathwork and well-being in and around Warrington and the North West, in the form of public, private and corporate classes and workshops. Please contact me for further information, or see my work with me pages for further information.

I have had a meditation practice since 2010. It was during my Yoga teacher training that I began to explore the philosophy and neuroscience of this practice.

I regularly attended lunchtime meditation classes while working in Manchester at the Kadampa Buddist Meditation centre. Which proved to be a very effective way of spending lunchtime on a very stressful job!

I studied meditation during my Yoga teacher training diploma and teach meditation both in yoga classes and as a standalone practice. The essence of Yoga practice is to develop a steady mind. It is through the practice of Yoga postures and breathing exercise (Asana and Pranayama) that we prepare the body and mind for meditation.

In March 2021, I completed a further 100 hours of study with Yogacampus (with Graham Burns and Isabell Britsch) to become a certified meditation teacher.

David Balfe - Dragn Yoga and Meditation

During meditation, we focus upon an object, which may be a part of the body, the breath, or a mantra that is repeated quietly in the mind. We use such objects to anchor our awareness. Our mind is naturally designed to think and therefore it can wander when distracted. Anchoring our mind to the breath can bring us back to present moment awareness each time it begins to wander.

Science has shown that with regular meditation practice we can rewire our brains through neuroplasticity. Over time and with consistent practice, our ability to concentrate for extended periods increases. We can enter states of deep focus more easily.

We become less emotionally reactive and more responsive. Stress levels begin to lower, and our nervous system and hormonal levels come into a state of balance. We are able to think more clearly and creatively, have better decision-making skills, improving sleep and wakefulness.

Developing a regular meditation practice has transformed me from being highly stressed and emotionally reactive to feeling a greater sense of balance and mastery of my thoughts and actions.
